Traineeships in European Institutions

1. The European Commission offers in-service training (stages) for young university graduates of all directions. Eligible are from the member states of the European Union and to a number of nationals from non-member countries. These training periods of offers work experience in one of the Commission’s departments. The traineeship last five months.
Start date: 1 March and 1 October each year.
Deadline for receipt of applications: 30 September and 1 March respectively.
Number of applicants: around 8,000

2.  The European Parliament offers two types of a five months traineeship: paid and unpaid. Candidates must hold the nationality of a Member State or of an applicant country, be between 18 and 45 years of age and have a thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the European Union and a good knowledge of a second.
Start date: 15 February and 15 September each year.
Deadline for receipt of applications: 15 October and 15 July respectively.

3. The Ombudsman office offers traineeships of five months twice a year to university graduates. The traineeships take place either in Strasbourg or in Brussels according to the needs of the Office.
Start date: 1 September and 1 February each year.

4. The European Economic and Social Committee offers twice a year traineeships for a period of five months to university graduates who are nationals of the Member States, as well as to a number of university graduates from non-EU countries. These periods of in-service training offer an opportunity to acquire professional experience in one of the ESC's departments.
Start date 16 February and 16 September of each year and take place in Brussels.

5. Council of Europe
Traineeship last three months and is for persons who have completed their higher education or have successfully completed at least three years of university study (six semesters), or candidates from national administrations or private firms who wish to find out about, learn more about or specialise in a particular field of the Council of Europe's activities. They must have performed duties requiring knowledge of university level for at least two years. Trainees must have a very good knowledge of one of the Council of Europe's official languages (English and French). A good knowledge of the other is desirable.
Start date:  15 January, 15 April, 15 October

6. Council of the European Union offers traineeships lasting 3 or 4 months on average. For nationals of States that are candidates for accession, traineeship opportunities are restricted to civil servants as long as negotiations continue. The age limit for trainees is thirty years.

7. Committee of the Regions offers five months traineeships mainly for students, offering them the opportunity to gain direct, practical experience of this European institution. These traineeships provide trainees with the chance to learn about the Committee of the Regions and in some cases carry out research as part of their final studies.
Start date 16 February and 16 September of each year.

8. European Central Bank applying candidates must be nationals of a Member States. No deadlines as vacancies are required. For vacancies issued as of 20 September 2002, the ECB also accepts applications from nationals of the EU accession countries.
